Would you like to gamify your life on Notion?
Not entirely sure how I got here.
The PARA system that once brought order to my life started feeling monotonous—it needed more life. I needed a system that followed closely but with more excitement.
Then, I stumbled upon a video about gamifying Notion called Life RPG, and it had me excited. The main takeaway from the video was the book Actionable Gamification – Beyond PBLs. I remembered listening to it a while ago, which sparked my brainstorming session that led me to map out what I was looking for:
- Tasks/actions that contribute to your EXP or Level
- Daily Quests → Habits
- Quests → Tasks
- Projects → Game Stages
- Milestones → Objectives
- Areas → Skills
- Resources → Tools
I decided not to get Life RPG. It seemed really cool, but I couldn't justify the cost without more to go on. So, I searched and searched for another Notion alternative.
Just as I was considering building it myself, I came across a lesser-known Notion creator.
*"Gamified Life OS was the product of almost 7 months of hard work, and an extension of my first version of it."
I was sold, especially for the price. It felt like a hidden gem.
Although it didn't follow PARA perfectly, it offered a simpler, easier method that followed PARA closely enough:
- Quests → Projects
- Tasks → Objectives under the Project
- Areas → Spirit, Body, Mind, Harmony
Kevin's one-liner includes, "…Building beautifully functional productivity systems," and he does not disappoint. It's something I look up to.
After buying:
- I selected the Studio Ghibli Template
- Used GPT and a headshot to create a 90's game-themed avatar.
I would like to add some personal touches as well:
- Receive an email notification with a level-up update after completing a level.
- Include more "virtual" inventory in the store.
- Get weekly stats on levels to build a more well-rounded character.
- Have a quest story that gives you a weekly update on where your character is.
Until next time ✌️
